I found Empress Crowned in Red too slow paced. Smart's writing is great to read and I did love this world she created, but it came a point where it felt like this book was about 200 pages too long. I enjoyed witches steeped in gold, but definitely should have reread the book prior to picking up the arc, as there was a lot of information and character's I couldn't remember.
