Synopsis

Eight Lectures on Yoga is a book by English occultist and teacher Aleister Crowley about the practice of Yoga. The book is number four of volume three of The Equinox, which was published by the Ordo Templi Orientis. The work is largely a demystified look at Yoga, using little to no jargon or satirical humor. It is divided under two sections into eight parts, which are transcripts of eight one-hour lectures on the subject given by Crowley.Eight Lectures on Yoga is divided into two sections: "Yoga for Yahoos" and "Yoga for Yellowbellies". In the book, Crowley instructs students on the steps needed to approach mysticism through Yoga, and details the complications that arise along the path. One intent Crowley had in writing the book was to dispel the various myths surrounding Yoga in Europe at the time - most thought it to be an exotic, Eastern ritual of the ancient past.

Consice , simple, and vital to any "Thelamites" curriculum vitae. It is too often forgotten, overlooked, or simply ignored that Crowley ended his life as a Mystic and viewed Yoga as an aim "Higher" than Magick. A goal to be achieved after one learned all one could from Magick. One of his last books.......more

Outstanding expository of yogic philosophy stripped of dogma. Further this analyses the essence of magick and religious mysticism. The language is extremely readable, despite the occasional joke inserted pertaining to specifically English or early 20th century culture. An essential read for the seri......more

feel free to correct me/answer my questions. I write as I read. As you can see with my notes there is quite a bit of editing needed. Sentences are out of order and sometimes in the wrong essay. This makes re reading a necessity. He withholds knowledge on purpose and doesn’t explain enough sometimes.......more

Unlike his insufferable autobiography, this one is much more readable. It helps to have some background in philosophy, logic and the kabbalah to get the maximum out of it (which I either never had or forgot.) No advice on yogic positions or anything you could take to yoga class at the gym. More of a......more
