Synopsis

When shy and secluded author Sara Fielding ventures from her country cottage to research a novel, she inadvertently witnesses a crime in progress—and manages to save the life of the most dangerous man in London.Derek Craven is a powerful and near-legendary gambling club owner who was born a bastard and raised in the streets. His reputation is unsavory, his scruples nonexistent. But Sara senses that beneath Derek's cynical exterior, he is capable of a love more passionate than her deepest fantasies.Aware that he is the last man that an innocent young woman should ever want, Derek is determined to protect Sara from himself, no matter what it takes. But in a world where secrets lurk behind every shadow, he is the only man who can keep her safe. And as Derek and Sara surrender to an attraction too powerful to deny, a peril surfaces from his dark past to threaten their happiness . . . and perhaps even their lives.Together they will discover if love is enough to make dreams come true.

About Lisa Kleypas

Lisa Kleypas, an American author, was born in 1964, and chose the genre of Historical Romantic Novels to begin her writing career. Even when her and her mother's Texas homes were taken by a devastating flood, they both went to buy the necessities, and for both of them that included a romance novel. After her graduation from Wellesley College in Political Science, Lisa published her first book at age 21. She has been very successful writing for Avon Books with her representative being the prestigious William Morris Agency.

Lisa has been writing full time since selling that first book at 21 years of age. She has sold millions of copies around the world, and has won many writing achievement awards over the years. One non-writing achievement came when she was Miss Massachusetts in the Miss America Pageant in 1985. At only 5'2", it was a challenge to wear a banner on which was printed one of the longest state names. She did win a "talented non-finalist" award for singing an original song.

Lisa decided in 2006 to temporarily change her writing genre to contemporary romance, but she did say she plans to return to historical romance in the future. Her list of published books keeps growing, with her 2012 book, "Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor" being made into the Hallmark movie, "Christmas With Holly". In 2015, she was given the honor of emceeing the Romance Writers of America Award Show. Lisa lives in Washington with her husband, Gregory, and their two children.

(Tropes: Opposites Attract, Unrequited Love, Wallflower, Love Triangle) This is how my 22nd re-read held up. I cannot believe how I have chosen to ignore a MAJOR big problem in this book the first time I r......more

Yes, it is 2022 and I am just reading Dreaming of You for the first time. Is Derek Craven really that big of a deal? Well, yes. Yes, he is. Holy moly this book! From the start I was obsessed with Derek's character. He is a self-made man who went through a very rough childhood and I just want him to......more

2.75 stars Not sure if I didn’t like this because it wasn’t good or it’s just outdated. Either way it didn’t really work for me. The mousy author meets the gambling den owner? Sounds super promising to me. But the writing style was a bit off and I never really felt the chemistry between Derek and S......more
