Synopsis

Dead Man’s Plack and an Old Thorn weaves history, legend, and nature into a reflective meditation on place and memory. William Henry Hudson contrasts quiet observations of Harewood Forest with the tragic tale of King Edgar and Earl Athelwold, whose friendship is undone by desire and betrayal. Blending personal reflection with historical narrative, the work explores loyalty, human folly, and how landscapes preserve the emotional echoes of the past.
