Synopsis

They thought it was just an animal.A strange, oversized creature brought aboard a ship as cargo—something to be sold, eaten, or discarded. But as the journey unfolds, it becomes clear that the real danger isn’t what the crew brought with them… it’s what they failed to understand. What begins as a routine transport turns into a quiet, unsettling confrontation with intelligence, identity, and the limits of human perception. From visionary science fiction author Philip K. Dick, Beyond Lies the Wub is a sharp, thought-provoking tale that challenges what it means to be truly sentient—and who gets to decide.A short, gripping listen that lingers long after the final line.

Philip K. Dick's first published story, from 1952, has a group of humans loading up their spaceship with various birds and animals from Mars, which they plan to eat on the way back to Earth, despite the disapproval of the Martians. Captain Franco, it is clear from the start, is a boorish guy. But Fr......more
