Synopsis

Michael Brooks takes on the new "Intellectual Dark Web."

As the host of The Michael Brooks Show and cohost of the Majority Report, Brooks was a progressive fighter whose work brought people together from around the world. In this, his first book, he lets his understanding of the digital media environment direct his analysis of the "conservative rebels" who had taken YouTube by storm in 2018.
Brooks provides a theoretically rigorous but accessible critique of the most prominent "renegades," including Sam Harris, Jordan Peterson, and Brett Weinstein while also examining the social, political, and media environment that such rebels thrive in.

About Michael Brooks

Michael Brooks was the host of the Michael Brooks Show and contributing host for the four-time award-winning independent political talk show The Majority Report. He was also briefly the cohost, along with Anna Kasparian, on a new YouTube show for Jacobin Magazine entitled Weekends. His writing appeared in Al Monitor, Al Jazeera, the Washington Post, among other publications. Upon Brooks's passing the former president of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, expressed his condolences: "May his passion for social justice be remembered and inspire people around the world."

Full disclosure: I am a big fan of The Majority Report podcast. Having enjoyed Michael Brook's Rubin decimations on Youtube, I thought this would be worth a look, particularly given......more

July 21st 2020 update: This morning I awoke to the news that Michael Brooks had died suddenly last night. It’s been almost 24 hours since the news first broke and I still have few words to truly convey the depth of sadness and shock I and so many others are feeling right now. Michael was an ever gro......more

I have to say I was, and still am, very unfamiliar with Michael Brooks as a person or social-media figure. I don't watch his Youtube show and I found this book having been recommended it via Goodreads. However the subject is a very interesting one and one that the left seems to really be ignoring, t......more

RIP Michael Brooks (1983 - 2020). This book, at its core, is an attempt to critique and provide an alternative to a clique of reactionary - and mostly online - figures dubbed "The Intellectual Dark Web" by the then-New York Times journalist Bari Weiss. For the most part, I find myself in agreement wi......more
